Abutilon indicum

This is Abutilon indicum. Also known as Kembang Luhur. What so special to this plant is the time of flower blossom only in the evening. It is a shrub 30-120 cm. Leaf with wide cordate, hairy. Seed is brownish colour and hairy.

In medicinal used, the leaf best to be boiled and used as patch on body or forehead because fever and place of ulser. The root can be hot compress to gums of the mouth because of toothache (Burkill 1935).

Below showed of the trichome and type of stomata. The trichome is undulating while the stomata is cylocytic. Also because too hairy, really need a lot of patient. This is my second attempt.
According to Raja Shanmuka Rao and Ramayya (1981) has the type of amphistomatic stomata present. While to Inamdar and Chohan (1969) the type of stomata that present is anomocytic.

Urena lobata

Urena lobata is another species of my mini project. Also known as pulut-pulut. It is quite challenging for a new comer like me..because the leaf was hairy (too much of trichome).

Kind of woody shrub, with 1 m high and hairy. Leaf with apeks 5 -10 lobous wide. single flower on the short diaxil. Fruit covered by hook.

Mincing the fruit and used to threat diarrhoea. The leaf can be use to threat wound. Gonorea can be threat by drink the boiled leaf and root water.

This is the abaxial leaf. we can see here that the anticlin wall is sinous. Anomocytic is the type of stomata and this is also my third attempt.

According to Raja Shanmukha Rao and Ramayya (1981) stomata that been found in Urena lobata is amphistomatic. Due to this, found that there are at least 5 variety of Urena lobata in Malaysia but the variety being used is purplish flower with big leaf same as the picture above.

Hibiscus sabdariffa L.

In a while, let's get to know to Hibiscus sabdariffa L.. Also known as Roselle.

Shrub with 1 -2 m high. The stem is woody, with red or purpulish colour. Simple leaf, polimorf, with the shape ovate/lanceolate when young and change to palmate, lobous 3-5 segment. Petiol and lamina are red in colour. single flower, big, five pinkish petal and yellowish spot.

It has been use in Malay's cooking. It's known as asam susur. Hibiscus sabdariffa L. contain high vitamin C that needed in synthesis collagen, maintain teeth, and bone. It is also a strong antioxyde, helps in reduce toxin. Also helps in reducing weight which was one of experiment that had made Prof. Madya Dr. Mohamad Osman win gold medal in British Invention Show at London few days ago.

This is the shape of stomata and trichome of H. sabdariffa L. But the anticlinal wall can't be seen. This is my third attempt. yet still in progress to have the best result.

This the polaroid side of the above image. It is seen as kristal and scatter on the abaxial side. It could be the reason of anticyanin.

Beauty at the other side

Look at here, this is the stomata of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis which i've done. We can see that the stomata type can be anomocytic or anisocytic.
Both are my second attempt, and i'm still on progress.
According to Shanmukha Rao (1983), the type of stomata should be anisocytic because it is frequently can be found on the abaxial leaf. Different to Siti Zabidah (1993) in her undergraduate project at UKM, showed that the type of stomata for the abaxial leaf are paracytic.
I could think that the differences occured because of the geography. Shanmukha Rao done it in India and Siti Zabidah was done it in Malaysia. The morphology of the plant look similar but not the anatomy. And that is the reason plant anatomy also one of the important field in plant systematic.
